US Sperm Banks Running Low on European Sperm
A ban on European sperm imports by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States in 2005 means that the supply of European sperm is starting to run low. The ban was put in place because of Mad Cow Disease.
European fertility experts have said the ban is ridiculous as "There's no evidence to show that mad cow disease can be transmitted in human semen." Others said some screening for the risk of mad cow is necessary, but a full ban is not.
